Tarkett, a global provider of innovative and sustainable flooring, has released a very unique luminous flooring product featuring LED technology from Philips Lighting.

Luminous vinyl flooring consists of specially developed vinyl tiles embedded with cutting-edge LED technology that enables retailers to advertise, interact with customers and guide them through any store or building.

Primarily developed for retail and hospitality environments, Tarkett’s new LED flooring helps provide unique customer experiences and drive sales through the broadcast of luminous messages, animations and advertisements on the luminous vinyl floor.

Anne-Christine Ayed, EVP Research, Innovation and Environment at Tarkett, explains that they are passionate about helping their clients create unique spaces with their flooring solutions across retail, hospitality and corporate sectors where brand identity is a key differentiator. She adds that luminous vinyl flooring helps take Tarkett’s ‘Unique Spaces’ innovation strategy to the next level, allowing floors to display dynamic messages or animations and draw people’s attention in an unprecedented way.

Luminous vinyl flooring is made using an innovative light translucent formula enabling glowing effects. The connected LED lights in the flooring allow displays to be pre-programmed or personalised by a tap of a smartphone screen or the click of a mouse. Real-time Internet content can be displayed as the cloud-based content management system can link to an external social media channel such as a Twitter feed.

Luminous vinyl flooring is available in a wide variety of decors and modern finishes, such as wood, mineral effects and graphic designs.

Observing that light is increasingly being embedded into floors, walls and ceilings, Dr Bernd Voelpel, General Manager Luminous at Philips Lighting comments that Tarkett’s latest innovation extends this trend and offers new ways to engage shoppers, visitors and employees. He adds that light can be used to welcome and guide people, alert them to special offers and even advertise to them. When connected to the web, all kinds of dynamic real-time information can be displayed; remote access also allows the retailer to program messages across multiple branches.
